Overview
What Epitalon is
Epitalon is a four–amino-acid peptide (alanine–glutamate–aspartate–glycine) developed as a synthetic version of epithalamin, a substance isolated from the pineal gland. Most of the published work comes from Russian research groups, where it has been studied over several decades rather than through large modern Western clinical trials.
The mechanisms researchers have proposed include:
- Telomerase activation: potential support of telomere length, a marker tied to cellular aging
- Circadian / melatonin regulation: influence on pineal signaling and the sleep-wake cycle
- Antioxidant activity: reduction of oxidative stress in some experimental models
These are areas of active interest, not settled conclusions. The human evidence base is limited, and Epitalon should be viewed as a research peptide rather than a proven therapy.
Regulatory status
Where Epitalon stands with the FDA
Epitalon is not FDA approvedfor any use. It is one of the peptides the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) is reviewing for possible inclusion on the 503A Bulk Drug Substances list, at the meeting scheduled before the end of February 2027. The indication under discussion at review is insomnia.
A PCAC recommendation is advisory and non-binding — even a favorable vote would require the FDA to complete formal rulemaking before compounding status changes. Until then, Epitalon is not available to order. Joining the waitlist simply lets us notify you if its availability changes.

Side effects & what to expect
Because rigorous human safety data is limited, Epitalon's side-effect profile is not well characterized in the way approved drugs are. Research reports have generally described it as well tolerated at studied doses, but the absence of large trials means unknowns remain.
