Why patients choose it
Why patients choose KPV
Calms inflammation at the source
Suppresses NF-κB and inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, IL-6) — the master drivers of gut and autoimmune inflammation.
Small enough to go oral
At just three amino acids, KPV is stable enough to be taken as a capsule that reaches the intestinal mucosa directly.
Naturally derived, well-tolerated
As a fragment of alpha-MSH — a peptide your body already makes — KPV has a very favorable tolerability profile with no serious adverse events reported.
Overview
What KPV is
KPV stands for its amino acid sequence: Lysine-Proline-Valine. It is the C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), a naturally occurring peptide hormone produced in the pituitary and peripheral tissues. The full α-MSH molecule has broad anti-inflammatory effects; KPV is the smallest fragment that retains this activity.
Its small size (three amino acids) makes it stable enough for oral delivery to the gut — unlike larger peptides that are broken down before they reach their target. This gives KPV an advantage for intestinal applications over injection-only compounds.
Candidacy
Who it's for
KPV is most commonly pursued by patients dealing with inflammatory or gut-related conditions that haven't fully resolved with conventional care. California patients who ask about KPV typically describe some combination of:
- Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD):Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis — to help reduce mucosal inflammation
- Leaky gut / intestinal permeability: to support tight junction integrity and epithelial barrier repair
- Post-infectious gut dysfunction: chronic inflammation after a viral or bacterial GI illness
- Systemic inflammation: autoimmune flares and chronic inflammatory conditions
- Wound healing: where an anti-inflammatory effect can accelerate skin and mucosal repair
Gut peptide stack: KPV vs. BPC-157
| KPV | BPC-157 | |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Suppresses NF-κB and inflammatory cytokines — directly calms immune overactivation in gut tissue. | Promotes angiogenesis and structural repair of the mucosal lining — addresses the healing side rather than inflammation suppression. |
| Best route | Oral capsule for intestinal effects (or injection for systemic). | Most commonly subcutaneous injection. |
| Primary role | Quiets the inflammatory signaling that drives gut damage. | Rebuilds the structural tissue and mucosal barrier. |
| Together | Combined use is common in clinical practice for IBD and gut permeability. | The two address both the inflammatory and the structural/healing aspects of gut damage. |
Safety
Side effects & tolerability
KPV has a very favorable tolerability profile. Being a naturally occurring fragment of α-MSH — a peptide the body produces — it is not expected to cause immune reactions at typical doses, and no serious adverse events have been reported in available research.
As with all compounded peptides, purity and pharmacy quality matter — use a licensed, regulated compounding pharmacy. KPV is studied as a complementary approach and is not a replacement for established IBD therapies. If you have a diagnosed gut condition, discuss KPV with your gastroenterologist before starting.
